By Haywood Hunter

Using tanning lotions has many benefits than sunlight methods of tanning. They guarantee less skin cancer problems. They also work fast. It is believed that sun-tanning effect takes close to 7 hours but using the Sun Self Tanner takes little time to get results. It is also cheap taking into account that most tanning beds are found in salons thus you incur service charges.

When the radiations from the sun get in contact with the skin, the UVA and UVB lights easily penetrate into dermis causing different effects. Professionals argue that UVA rays may cause the skin to look aged than normal. Sometimes one may experience peeling of their skin as well. Also, the rays cause dermis to be depressed.

Avoiding the sun as your main source of tanning is also very helpful. Limiting the hours when you are exposed to excessive sunrays will help in a big way. The essence of being out in the sun apart from just tanning is getting vitamin D. Vitamin D can be obtained from some foods and drinks. Eating tuna and taking orange juice will help much.

One thing that is highly emphasized is washing the body. This is part of a series of skin preparation process before applying tanner products. Failure to do a perfect skin preparation may result to getting unsatisfactory results. You may end up having streaks or white and blackish spots on your skin, which may appear on the rough areas of your body.

Least has been said on the dangers of the tan beds. They contribute the same risks as the sun on skin. Also, a lot of people who use the tan beds stand a higher risk of developing cataracts and corneal burns. Cataracts grow very fast and may block the whole cataract. These cataracts can be recurrent, and in some cases, they can even lead to total eye blindness.

Irritation is a sign that one should not proceed with the application of a lotion or tan gel products. Some irritation may need immediate intervention of a dermatologist. When you use the self-tan products, apply them in a circular motion to have an even spread of the tan. Start with your face and neck downwards. Apply it well on your shoulders, chest, and the stomach.

A strap or paintbrush can be used, when applying the product on your back. Use your blow drier to dry yourself gently on all the places before starting the actual tan process. A few seconds are enough to get you completely dry. When spreading tan lotions on skin, shaving may be require. However, this is not mandatory as people with sensitive skin can as well avoid a shave because it can lead to skin irritation.

For better results, applying some moisturizers on troubled spots can work wonders. Knees elbows, feet, and hand are some of the troubled spots. Doing this will prevent the spots from being too dark. Applying the tanning lotion using loofah gloves protects your hand from getting orangey. Be sure to apply everywhere and not leave some spots unreached. However, you should not apply any on soles and palms.
