Forms Of Hair Loss Treatment DE

By Mark Patterson

There are hair loss types that are temporary, for example if it results from chemotherapy. There are others that are natural like in the case of ageing and which is no easily treated. There is the emotional distress that comes with hair loss and which explains why many people seek treatment for it. In consideration of hair loss treatment DE residents need to be well versed with the various options. If such loss is caused by an underlying problem, solving that problem solves the loss.

The use of medications is one of the options one can consider. Minoxidil is an example of effective medication that is used by men and women. It is available as a lotion which is bought over the counter. It is bought from pharmacies and applied daily on the scalp. Stronger versions can be used if the mild ones do not yield results.

When the stronger forms of the medication are used, there are possible side effects like itchiness of the affected areas or dryness. This medication should be used over several months to get the desired results. Baldness resumes after usage is stopped. At the time, any hairs that were already growing will fall off. The second FDA approved medication is known as finasteride. It is designed for men and is available only through prescription. It is in the form of a tablet taken daily.

It works through prevention of the hormone testosterone from being converted into dihydro-testosterone. It is this hormone which causes shrinking of hair follicles and thus blocking its production will allow follicles to get back to their normal size. It will take between 3 to 6 months to see effects. Balding resumes within 6 to 12 months after treatment stops. Side effects are never common but a few users have experienced loss of sex drive or erectile dysfunction.

Surgery is an option that works and can thus be considered. People considering surgical options are those suffering from male or female pattern baldness. Surgery is normally used only when less invasive procedures have failed to bear fruit. Success of surgery depends the surgeon because like any surgical procedure, there are possible complications.

Hair transplant is one of the options. It is performed under local anesthesia. There is removing small scalp pieces from areas with a lot of hairs. That piece gets divided into several single hairs that are grafted into areas that have no hairs. The transplant should happen over a number of sessions that need to be spaced a year apart.

There is also scalp reduction whereby there will be removal of pieces of bald scalp fro the crown or top of the head. The aim is to move hairy sections closer to each other. The loose skin is cut then stitched back together. This can also be done using tissue expansion.

Tissue expansion is whereby a balloon is placed below the scalp. It is then inflated over several weeks so that the skin is expanded in stages. The balloon is finally removed. The procedure is not used for male pattern baldness.
