By Donald Sanders

When in the process of searching for methods to remove hair from the body, there are many things to take into consideration. When doing so, a man or woman has to consider every option and evaluate which one will cater to their needs the most. One must do a substantial amount of research and ask the necessary questions to make sure nothing will go wrong.

Due to technological advancements, there are many kinds of treatments available in the market today. One of these is called alexandrite laser, and this is a very powerful equipment used in salons and clinics by licensed practitioners. Since there are no home devices of this sort that has been approved by the FDA, one must go to a clinic to have the procedure done.

By using radiation, light amplification is achieved so light can flow through. This light is then directed at an alexandrite crystal so that a 750 nm laser is produced in the color red. While that is the standard size, the length will depend upon how much is needed in order for it to effectively go through the pores of the skin.

The reason why this is so effective is because it uses short laser pulses instead of the usual long one. Apart from removing unwanted follicles, this is also commonly used for spider veins, birthmarks, age spots, and even old scars. A demographic that benefits highly from it is the tattooed population. In the instance that they would like to remove a tattoo from their bodies, they can easily get the procedure done in clinics or salons.

Despite being the best in the market and applicable to different variations of skin and hair, it still has limitations. Despite being recommended to all types of hair, it still works best with thin and light colored ones. It is also better on lighter complexion because it makes it easier for the beam to penetrate the surface and take effect.

The dermatologist will usually recommend a client how many sessions they need in order to achieve the desired result. Experts claim that follicles will be removed by 70 percent after the recommended number of procedures. This will still vary though because thick hair will need an average of 8 to 12, while fine types require somewhere around 6 to 8 treatments.

Be aware though that it also has some undesirable side effects when not properly done. For instance, men and women with a fair complexion are prone to dark spots due to the excess of melanin production. This happens when the treatment is overdone and not treated properly. There is also a possibility of darker complexions obtaining hypo pigmentation, where spots of skin lighten considerably.

Pain is an aspect that most people are already aware of. It is nothing to worry about though, because the pain is very tolerable and will not require a high pain tolerance to endure. A special cooling gel is usually applied by the dermatologist one she or he is done with the entire procedure. This is done in order to hinder any swelling. However, some men and women may feel an itchy or have swelling in their treated areas but that will subside in the days to come.

Perhaps the most important factor to ascertain is if any hair removal treatment is approved by the FDA.This is detrimental not only to the success of the entire procedure, but also to ensure the safety of the patient planning on undergoing such a thing. Alexandrite is safe though since it was long approved in 1997.
