Why An Omaha Walk In Clinic Can Be A Better Choice Than The Emergency Room

By Paul Wagner

Some people panic when they get sick. They are inclined to call an ambulance and go straight to the emergency room. Others decide to drive themselves or call the doctor's office at the first opportunity. There is another option however. Nebraska natives are turning more and more often to an Omaha walk in clinic for quick and professional help.

Emergency rooms and the staff that works in them are critical for those with life threatening injuries and illnesses. Everyone is trained to work quickly and make split second life and death decisions. If you opt to go to the hospital for a fever, aches, pains, or minor injuries you will be taking a professional away from the patients that are in dire circumstances. If you had gone to an urgent care facility you would have been treated by an experienced practitioner quickly and sent on your way.

If you opt to go to an emergency room for care, you can expect to receive a big bill. It can cost thousands of dollars for even routine examinations and tests. Calling an ambulance is an added expense that can end up costing several hundred dollars. Urgent care facilities can provide care at much lower costs because they don't have the expensive overhead that a hospital has.

Urgent care facilities can be a lot more convenient than hospitals. Many of them are located in pharmacies in neighborhoods throughout large and small towns. It is easier to find a parking space there, and the time you will wait to see someone is usually minimal. Not all facilities are open twenty-four hours a day, but most open early and close late.

The individuals who use walk in clinics are not usually as ill as those who visit emergency rooms, so it doesn't take practitioners as long to see them. Patients can wait for hours in the hospital before a doctor or critical care nurse can get to them. In the end, the patients receive the same care they would have gotten in a clinic.

Hospitals are notorious for the amount of paperwork they require of patients. You may have to sign numerous forms and fill out releases for a minor health issue. It is not unusual for patients to have to go to multiple windows and answer the same questions in order to be released. Walk in clinics do not require large amounts of paperwork because they are less complex operations.

Another convenience you will find by opting for urgent care is that your prescriptions can be filled at the clinic or pharmacy where you were treated. You don't have to go someplace else to get your medication, which can be a real convenience if you are not feeling well. Of course you can choose to use your regular pharmacy, but at least you have the option.

When people get sick or hurt, they sometimes panic. The first thought for many is that they need emergency treatment. This may not be the case. Urgent care facilities are appropriate alternatives for those with non-threatening injuries and illnesses. Using them instead of the emergency room can be quicker, cheaper, and just as effective.
