At A Walk In Clinic Tampa Patients Can Expect Basic Treatment

By Paul Bell

Health is certainly the biggest asset anyone has. Unfortunately, the cost of medical care has soared and most people simply cannot afford it if they do not have medical insurance. There are also millions of poor people that cannot afford such insurance and they are therefore excluded from most treatment facilities, unable to receive medical care from top professionals. At least, by attending a walk in clinic Tampa patients can be sure to receive at least basic treatment.

More than eleven thousand of these facilities are distributed all over the United states. Most do not charge any fee and some charge only a very small fee. Many municipalities run free clinics. Charities and churches also operate a large number of such facilities. The majority, however, can be found inside pharmacies all over the country. Patients do not make appointments, they simply pitch up.

People without any form of medical insurance should take the trouble to familiarize themselves with the treatment facilities in their areas. Not all facilities offer the same services and one would not want to fall around looking for a treatment facility only when an emergency occurs. The majority of clinics offer only emergency treatment while others, especially those in pharmacies, offer a wider range of treatments.

The treatment offered by these clinics may be limited, but they are heaven sent for numerous poor people that have no alternative. The vast majority of people will have such clinics within walking distance of their homes. As an added advantage, the majority of clinics are open twenty four hours a day. They do not vet patients or ask awkward questions and they never show a patient away.

Critics say that these clinics do more harm than good. They point out that because patients cannot make appointments, they are often forced to wait for hours before they are helped. The sheer number of patients visiting clinics is also a problem because health workers simply do not have much time to spend with each clinic. Critics say this causes the clinics to operate like processing plants.

The vast majority of facilities have no doctor in their employ or they depend on the occasional visits from doctors that donate their time free of charge. Most clinics are therefore run by nursing practitioners that are not qualified to prescribe medication or to diagnose diseases. They also have extremely limited diagnostic tools and resources. The result is that they often treat the symptoms only.

One of the most important disadvantages of these clinics is that no medical history of patients are kept. Medical histories are extremely important to medical experts. It contains valuable facts regarding past treatments, medication previously prescribed and conditions that are currently treated. Without a full medical history it is not possible to provide quality medical care.

Nobody will argue the fact that the medical care available to the poor is woefully inadequate. Despite the criticism clinics at least provide basic care and they can deal with most minor problems. Hopefully the future holds better medical care for everyone, despite background or income. In fact, proper medical care when it is needed should be seen as a very basic human right.
