It is this reaction that promotes healing or the regeneration process of the damaged cells.

Typically, the wavelengths of the lasers that are used for this process range between 600 and 700 nanometers. However, it is also possible to use lasers of longer wavelengths. Longer wavelengths are used when the level of penetration that needs to be achieved is deeper. In such a case, the wavelengths may range from 780 to 950 nanometers.

A hand-held laser device is usually used to perform this procedure. The patient can feel it as the device is placed on their body. But, the patient feels nothing else throughout the process beyond the device touching their body. This is because the procedure is noninvasive and painless. The patient feels no sound, heat, or vibrations.

A patient can however feel some warmth in cases where lasers of larger wavelengths are used so as to penetrate deeper into the tissues. The lasers normally produce the warmth. The application of the treatment is normally limited to a few minutes so as to avoid any damage that might be possibly caused to the affected area. A standard application will take between 1 and 2 minutes per session.

Cold laser therapy is not a new idea and it is not limited in who can use it. Several different medical practitioners including physical therapists, dentists, and doctors use this method of treatment to treat a wide range of medical conditions. The ways in which this method can be used also vary. In most cases however, it is used to repair and relief pain and inflammation of the tissues.

Bursitis, ligaments sprains, tendonitis, and muscle strains are some of the medical issues that can be rectified using this technique. Other conditions that can be treated as well using this method are knee pain, neck pain, lower back pain, and tennis elbow. When used this method not only helps with promoting healing but also reduces swelling in joints and soft tissue. It is used in healing ulcerations and treating inflamed tissues in dentistry.
